McLennan County, Texas - Over 1000 measles cases have been confirmed in the United Sates, and now the first case has been reported in McLennan County for 2025.

Measles Outbreak Declared in Central Texas

In March, Erath and Brown counties recorded cases of measles which were the first to be reported in Central Texas. Now, in May, the first case has been reported in McLennan meaning that Central Texas is now considered to be under an outbreak (three or more related cases) according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

️ McLennan County Case Poses No Known Public Exposure

The most recent case in McLennan County does has not led to any reported public exposure. A medical facility in Central Texas was able to test the patient while adhering to strict infection control measures.

It is critical for parents to get their children vaccinated against the measles virus. The United States of America was able to categorize measles as eliminated in the year 2000 as a result of the measles vaccination program.

Due to misinformation spread throughout the world after Andrew Wakefield had an article published in The Lancet medical journal in 1998 there was backlash against vaccinations, specifically the MMR vaccine, due to unproven claims that the vaccine could cause autism.

Measles Cases Surge in US, Texas Heavily Affected

Last year there was a total of 285 cases of measles in the United States for the entire year, and this year over a thousand cases have been reported before the six-month mark. Over 70% of the cases this year have been reported in the state of Texas.
