Company Admits Fault In Helping Start Largest Texas Panhandle Fire

The Smokehouse Creek fire continues around the Texas Panhandle, as firefighters continue to attempt contain the blaze. At the current time of writing, it isn't fully put out, sitting at 72% contained. However, the cause of the fire was continually under suspicion.

Today, on March 7th, 2024, one company has come forward stating they believe that they helped start the worst fire in Texas history. Here's what it known at the time of writing.

Xcel Energy Speaks To The Starting Of The Fire

According to multiple sources, Xcel Energy released a statement in regards to the beginnings of the blaze.

According to Xcel, they stated the following:

"Based on currently available information, Xcel Energy acknowledges that its equipment appear to have been involved in an ignition of the Smokehouse Creek fire."

But the company also said that there was no carelessness in terms of maintenance or making sure things weren't operational. They also stated that if an individual lost something due to the fire, to reach out directly:

"We encourage people who had property destroyed by or livestock lost in the Smokehouse Creek fire to submit a claim to Xcel Energy through our claims process."
