Copperas Cove, Texas is my kid's favorite town to drive through because they know it is almost the halfway point to reaching Kingsland, and another fun getaway to Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. We have taken different routes through town, and one of our favorites is stopping at the Dairy Queen at the corner of First Street and West Avenue B, so we have driven past the nearby and beautiful First Baptist Church in Cove many times.

When did the Copperas Cove First Baptist Church Catch on Fire?

According to this KCEN article, the lead pastor, Mark Kemp, was notified by the police after 10 PM on Monday that the fire department had responded to a fire that had engulfed the foyer just outside the sanctuary.

Thankfully the fire and most likely bulk of the water damage was limited to the foyer which is a total loss, but the smoke damage was able to spread to almost every corner of the building, and that will require extensive work to repair too.

Where will the First Baptist Church members meet following the fire?

One thing the good worshipers at the First Baptist Church already know is that there is no challenge too great for God, and they are leaning on their fellow brothers and sisters to continue to move forward with regular services as the timeline for the building's recovery remains in motion.
