Texas Twinkies, the Cowboy Burger, and all you can eat Fish Fry on Friday nights are just the beginning of the great reasons to make the drive to Country City in Cameron.

Officially it's Country City Saloon & Grill, and recently I made the drive out from Temple to check out the place. Being new to Central Texas, I love being able top go see what the surrounding areas have to offer. It was about a 45 minute drive from the US-105 studios, and as we left Temple and entered the country, the traffic lightened up and I turned the radio up and felt like I had the road mostly to myself.

We got to Country City just in time to order lunch, but first Selena took us on a tour of the grounds.

The main dining room is spacious, and the bar had several TV's on so I instantly thought of how watching the Cowboys/Rangers/Star/Mavs while enjoying an adult beverage would be. They also has a small stage in the corner perfect for a weekend DJ or a singer/songwriter.

Country City host pool tournaments on Thursday nights, and folks come from all around to run the table. If pool isn't your thing, try the dart boards. Careful, though! Selena might show you who the boss of darts is at Country City.

Country City is home to three stages. I told you about the smaller indoor stage, but they also have a barn with a great stage and two bars, plus an outdoor stage perfect for the larger events.

The Bellamy Brothers recently played to a crowd of 800 people, and on March 27, Cory Morrow will headline the Founders Birthday Bash. David Adam Byrens, Landon Heights and South 77 are also on the bill.

Tickets are $20 and you can get yours HERE.

Let's talk about the food. Executive Chef Calvin Dykstra has put together a great menu. I started with the Texas Twinkies - jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and brisket and wrapped in bacon, which I had to try dipped in homemade BBQ sauce...so good!.

I also enjoyed the Cowboy Burger - a beef patty with a huge serving of smoked pork and sliced bacon. I could only mange half the burger, but believe me, the second half hit the spot the following day for breakfast.

I particularly enjoyed Chef's homemade BBQ sauce. All I can tell you is that it's made with 31 "Top Secret" ingredients. Whatever mojo he's got working there, it's excellent. Chef also served us a sample of the fried fish they serve up on Friday's. Again, it was really good.

There are so many reasons to make the drive out to Cameron to visit Country City Saloon & Grill. Drive out for the food, then stay for the pool on Thursday nights, to play some darts, to watch the games on the TV's, and to enjoy some live music.
