Copperas Cove, Texas was able to witness history again and again in the 2006 and 2007 seasons of high school football as Robert Griffin III led the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs to back to back state championship football appearances where they unfortunately came up short of winning the title both seasons.

Griffin III was more than just a hall of fam worthy football player, he competed in basketball, plus track and field throughout his co-ed sports career and was a record setting track star, being named the Gatorade Texas Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year while winning the 110 and 300 meter hurdle titles as a junior.

Griffin III was much more than an impressive athlete, he ranked 7th in his graduating class in academics along with being class president. If you are wondering why he didn't repeat as the Gatorade track athlete his senior year it is because he graduated early, and was busy winning the Big 12 Conference Title as a barely 18 year old freshman in the spring of 2008 in the 400 meter hurdles.

Griffin III went on to be drafted number 2 overall in the 2012 NFL draft, and when he started at quarterback that fall with Washington, he also became the youngest starting QB in the history of the NFL. Now a member of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, according to this KCEN article, he was inducted with the first ever member of the 2010's decade, Patrick Mahomes.
