Dallas, Texas's beautiful Downtown Historic District has been anchored by one store for over 100 years, and is quite literally the last original store of the district still in existence today. Retail stores and their locations have struggled mightily over the last few years, and even a legendary brand like Neiman Marcus has not managed to be an exemption.

Hudson's Bay Company that owns Saks Fifth Avenue just finished acquiring Neiman Marcus last month as their downtown 99 year lease was expiring, and were able to get a short extension until the end of March. Shortly after finalizing the purchase, it was announced that Texas would soon be losing the iconic Neiman Marcus flagship and headquarters to closure because of costs.

Luxurious Downtown Texas Store Now Avoiding Extinction

According to this WFAA article, it appears an 11th hour deal has been made between the building's owner and the city of Dallas. The building is being donated to the city, and that will allow for Neiman Marcus to remain, but details about a new lease have not been disclosed.

It really is an interesting scenario that is playing out, and our immediate good news is that an iconic part of the living history of Dallas's downtown will not only not have to pack up, but will remain the legendary landmark of Main and South Ervay Street.
