Dell Will Grant Low Income UT Students $20,000 Next Fall
The University of Texas of Austin recently raised the free tuition limit for students who come from low-income families from $30,00 to $65,000, and now those same students could receive more financial help.
The Texas Tribune writes that a $100 million gift from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation will help incoming freshmen for the next ten years pay for college living expenses.
The gift will support Pell Grant recipients and help pay for new laptops, tutoring, career and internship planning, and financial aid coaching. The Pell Grant is a federally funded, need-based grant.
There will be an estimated 2,000 students eligible for the $20,000 check.
Michael Dell is the 27th richest person in the world and the founder and CEO of Dell Technologies based in Round Rock. He's been helping low-income students for years. The Dell Foundation's goal is to raise the impressive graduation rate for low-income students from 73% to 90%.
There is no application to receive the grant, so make sure students are aware. This is a great opportunity, These benefits weren't around back in my day (said in an old man voice) but it's great they are today.
