Arrest Made in Death of 16-Year-Old Houston Girl Shot 22 Times

An arrest has been made following the murder of a 16-year-old Houston, Texas girl who was shot 22 times while out walking her dog.

Diamond Alvarez Was Just Walking Her Dog

As we reported, the shooting happened at around 9:30pm on Tuesday, January 11 in Southwest Houston as the victim, Diamond Alvarez, was out walking her dog. The family went out looking for their daughter after the dog returned home alone. They found Diamond a short time later in a field close to their home. She had been shot 22 times.

Police Now Suspect Her Ex

According to a report from the Associated Press, Houston police arrested 17-year-old Frank Deleon Jr., Alverez's ex-boyfriend, and charged him with murder.

Anna Machado, Alvarez’s mother, says that her daughter and Deleon had been dating for less than a year when Alvarez had learned that Deleon was seeing another girl while they were still together.

Machado describes the relationship as “they were off and on”, but says she never saw any red flags or thought her daughter was in any danger.

Deleon had texted Alvarez and asked her to meet her in the field shortly before she was murdered.

An Arrest Is Just the Beginning

Although the family is relieved that an arrest has been made, they also say that they hope the judge orders Deleon be held without bond. Deleon is being held in a Harris County jail with court records showing a $250,000 bond.

Prosecutors say Deleon was trying to pack his luggage and run away at the time of his arrest.

Machado told the AP, “He doesn’t even deserve a high bond. He executed my daughter.”

Funeral services for Diamond Alvarez are set for Friday at 11am in Houston.
