A Houston, Texas family and community mourn following the tragic shooting death of a 16-year-old girl who was shot 22 times while out walking her dog.

The shooting took place on Tuesday night in a Southwest Houston neighborhood at around 9:30pm.

According to reports, 16-year-old Diamond Alvarez was out walking her dog when she was attacked.

Diamond's mom, Anna Machado, told her to only stay out for 20 minutes. When the dog, Peanut, made it home without Diamond, Machado knew something was wrong and set out to find her daughter.

The girl's body was discovered in a field a couple of blocks from her home by her 14-year-old brother. Machado attempted CPR on her daughter, but was unable to revive her.

Several witnesses said they heard the gunshots and saw a dark colored vehicle leaving the scene, but Houston police are still looking for the suspect or suspects.

Family and friends gathered at a makeshift memorial on Thursday to remember Diamond Alvarez, who wanted to be a beautician when she grew up.

GoFundMe page has been set up by the family to help with funeral costs. Houston police are also asking for anyone who has info on the shooting to come forward.

Anyone with video or more information is asked to please call Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-9080.
