
Waco Drug Trafficking Ring Busted: Feds Announce Major Arrests
A major drug bust occurred earlier this week in Waco resulted in 20 people being indicted on federal charges of drug trafficking. The arrests were a result of an investigation into a major trafficking conspiracy that had been plaguing the city of Waco since April of 2024.
⚖️ Serious Charges: Meth, Heroin, and Cocaine Distribution
Some of the defendants were indicted on the charge of intent to distribute methamphetamine in the amount of at least 500 grams. That charge can result in a sentence of 10 years to life in a federal prison. There were charges of intent to distribute heroin in the amount of 1 kilogram which can result in a sentence of 10 years to life in federal prison as well. There was also a charge of distributing 500 grams of cocaine which carries a sentence of five to 40 years in federal prison.
Waco's Rising Drug Offenses: A Troubling Trend
According to The Baylor Lariat, narcotics offenses have increased 21% in Waco since 2022. This is a stark contrast to a decrease in other types of crime in Waco and McLennan County. Drug overdoses increased by 32% in the area and drug75% across the state of Texas.

Fentanyl and other opioids contribute to a large amount of the drugs in the Central Texas area, and they affect people of all backgrounds. Fentanyl is one of the major contributors to fatal overdoses due to the fact that someone can be killed with an amount as small as a grain of rice.
Joint Effort: Agencies Unite for Waco Drug Crackdown
These arrests were a result of a joint investigation between the FBI, DEA, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, and the Waco Police Department. All of the people indicted are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but hopefully the interagency investigation did its due diligence which will result in the incarceration of criminals that we do not want in Central Texas.
