Devastating Winds Hit Texas Town: Now Flea Market Destroyed!
KWTX in Belton reported that in the morning hours of Monday strong wind gusts cause significant damage to the Bell County Flea Market in Melton. The damage was significant enough that one business was completely destroyed. The flea market is located just off I-14 and George Wilson Road. It has been a major part of the community for over 35 years, according to assistant manager Sage Roberts.
Fire Marshals responded quickly to the scene, shutting off the electricity to prevent further hazards. As winds continued to tear up the area, business owners could be seen scrambling to try and save their businesses as best they could. Metal sheets had blown off the roof and walls, and they had to wait for permission to enter their stores and begin cleaning up the damage.
The Bell County Flea Market has been a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, offering a variety of goods from local vendors. The market’s longstanding presence in the area has made it a key part of the community’s culture.
As the cleanup begins, business owners are left dealing with the aftermath of the storm, uncertain of when they’ll be able to reopen. Not only is the damage of the storm going to cause a financial burden due to the cost of repairs, but the loss of income from not being able to operate will have a devastating effect. This is an on-going story, and more updates will be provided during the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts at KUSJ.
