Fort Cavazos, Texas has been a regular topic in the news over the past couple of weeks, and sadly some of that news now involves the death of at least one person following a shooting at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area that is located within the boundaries of the army post. Another beautiful, fair weather weekend turned deadly after an altercation at the park escalated into a shooting that resulted in multiple casualties.

Details are still a bit hazy regarding the news of a Saturday evening shooting, but the Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Cavazos is investigating the incident and sometimes public press releases are slow in arrival when dealing with United States military protocols etc.

Fort Cavazos Shooting: CID Investigates Death at BLORA, Texas

According to this KCEN article, around 9 PM Saturday night there was a call about a violent episode between two people with one person is now dead from a gunshot wound, and the other injured with an unknown status. Since BLORA is technically on post and under the command of Fort Cavazos, Garrison commander Col. Lakicia Stokes did share that the investigation is being handled internally at this time.

The shooting did activate the active shooter warning, but the post is reporting they were never in a lockdown situation, so sheltering in place was not a mandatory instruction. BLORA is open to the public during set operating hours and all vehicles are subject to search, so there is a good chance your next visit could experience a more thorough inspection.
