Round Rock, Texas is just 50 miles from Killeen, and only 50 years ago was barely a speck on a map, and hardly would be considered anything beyond a tiny town in Central Texas.

As Austin began its surge towards being a city of a million people in the 80s, Round Rock remained a bedroom community of only a few thousand, however, since the 90s the city has been growing faster than a wasp colony in the hot Texas sunshine and has more than quadrupled in size over the last 30 years.

Every year, the US News & World Report releases countless best of lists for categories like best place to retire, start a family, great cost of living, or even being single. Over the last few years, there literally is not another region of the entire country that has littered, and more specifically dominated the lists, like the Lone Star State.

Out of the top 250 places to live in the United States, Leander is now the highest at #8. The four Central Texas cities that finished the highest are:

- Pflugerville - #15
- Cedar Park #23
- Round Rock - #28

Over a third of the top 30 are Texas cities, and the final one on the list, McKinney, was still in the top 40.
