A quick Google search shows that Texas communities are experiencing a blood shortage. Let's see what we can do about that.

The Training Center of Central Texas is teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive Thursday, April 1 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Not only will you be helping save lives, but there are prizes up for grabs too. People who donate blood between April 1 and April 15 can win premium tickets to the 2022 Indianapolis 500 with garage and pit credentials, hotel, airfare, and a $500 gift card. You could also win a $1,000 e-gift card to the merchant of your choice.

There's always a need for blood, and the donation process is quick and painless except for that tiny pinch. If you've never given blood before, the Red Cross' website has a quick overview of what it's like. It'll take about 8-10 minutes, and you could give the gift of many years to someone in need of healthy blood.

By the way, if you're a Fort Hood soldier or have base access, the Armed Forces Blood Donor Program is also in dire need of blood and plasma donations.

According to a recent report from Ft. Hood, the Robertson Blood Center on base should be receiving over 500 blood donations a week, but they only receive between 5 to 15. Just one pint of blood could save up to three lives of other members of the armed forces in need, so stop by and donate.

They're open weekdays from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. You can call ahead for an appointment at (254) 285-5808 or just stop by the blood center at 2250 West 761st Tank Battalion Avenue.
