This is devastating news to hear, especially knowing kids are involved. Police in Killeen, Texas confirmed over the weekend that two children died and a woman was injured in a domestic dispute Saturday morning.

THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION RELEASED BY THE KILLEEN POLICE DEPARTMENT MONDAY, MARCH 14 AT 12:03 PM.

What Happened?

According to Killeen PD spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez and our news partners at KWTX, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Vega Drive around 11:12 AM after receiving a 911 call about a gunshot victim.

Their preliminary investigation revealed that a domestic dispute between a married couple turned deadly, and the husband is accused of shooting three people, including two children and his wife, who is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Who Was Shot?

In a news release, Miramontez reported that an 11-year-old girl at the scene showed no signs of life when officers arrived. She was pronounced dead at 11:57 AM.

A 6-year-old was airlifted to Mclane's Children's Hospital in critical condition. Sadly, the child succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:20 PM.

A 38-year-old woman was also shot during the dispute and is at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. Police said she was in stable condition, and is expected to recover.

Did The Husband Get Arrested?

According to police, the woman's spouse was located and arrested in connection with the shooting. He was taken to the Killeen City Jail Saturday.

In a news release issued early Monday afternoon, police identified the suspect as Kendrick Donnell Gaines. Gaines, a former soldier was charged with Capital Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and was booked into the Bell County Jail at 12:08 PM today (March 14). His bond was set at $2.5 million.

Were Other People Injured?

There was reportedly another person in the home while the shootings occurred, but were not harmed. Killeen Police Chief Charles Kimble told KWTX that everyone involved is believed to be related. He asked the public for compassion for the family as KPD's investigation continues.

Miramontez said KPD's investigation was ongoing and did not release further details.

GoFund Me Account Has Been Set Up

Because of this horrific crime, a GoFund Me page has been set up to assist the family with expenses.

According to the page, "both sisters are going to need monetary support for funeral expenses, having both children sent out of state to the family plot at the cemetary, moving out of their homes, and medical expenses. Both funerals will be very soon and the sisters will be moving out of their homes this month, so it is of the utmost importance that donations are received quickly."

My Opinion

Of course, I wasn't there and have no idea what actually happened, but it saddens me whenever I hear of young, innocent children being unnecessarily involved in a dispute between adults.

I'm sure whatever happened, the kids didn't deserve to be swept up in it and harmed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family.
