A Central Texas Girl Scout Troop is making sure homeless pets have food to eat.

Feeding Foster Animals in Central Texas

Girl Scout Troop 22450 set out to earn a service badge by collecting food for animals in need and when all was said and done, the girls collected over 1,300 pounds of food. The girls partnered with the Humane Society of Central Texas and local businesses for the project that does more than feed animals.

Central Texas Foster Families Now Have Help When Fostering a Pet

Many people have considered fostering a pet in their home, but sometimes the money involved acts as a deterrent. The Girls Scouts hope that by providing food for foster families, more Central Texans will be able to open their homes to a foster pet. Organizers said it took the five girl scouts one month to collect 1,370 pounds of food.

Lessons Learned From the Central Texas Project

Troop organizers say the girls learned important life lessons from the food collection project. Collecting much needed food for the animals taught the girls that their actions can make a difference both in their community and in the lives of homeless dogs. The Girl Scouts are challenging other groups to build on their efforts to make the lives of foster dogs better as they wait their forever homes.
