Once again ex-Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman was arrested on sexual assault charges, but has been released on bond.

These charges are in addition to his previous charges from September 21, 2020, when he was arrested for felony assault on a public servant, sexual assault, and misdemeanor official oppression after an investigation by the Texas Rangers. Scaman was released on a personal recognizance bond and remained as Falls County Sheriff until his successor, Democrat Joe Lopez, was sworn into office in 2021.

The most recent charges are said to have come from yet another woman who worked for Scaman at the Falls County Sheriff’s Office when he was still Sheriff.

Yet again, Scaman was released on another personal recognizance bond for his most recent arrest.

Since 2017, Scaman has been named in multiple lawsuits alleging sexual harassment and sexual assault. Despite the allegations, Scaman remained in power, and it seems he repeatedly took advantage of his position to put women in terrible situations.

What if he had won re-election? Would Falls County then have a Sheriff with multiple pending sexual assault charges?

While Scaman has been charged and arrested, his multiple releases send a horrifying message to his victims and the women of Central Texas. Of course we understand innocent until proven guilty, but justice has been delayed. The fact that Scaman remained Sheriff even after being arrested demonstrates that the community and its women were not being put first or even taken seriously.
