I've been living in Texas for four years now, and I thought that I wouldn't experience that much culture shock since I am originally from Georgia. Boy was I wrong.
Texas vs. The Rest: A Clash of Cultures
In the short amount of time that I have been here I have come to learn that there are some stark differences between Texas and the traditional Southern States. Some of these differences are cultural, some are environmental, and others are economical. Regardless of the reason it's safe to say that Texas ain't the south. It ain't the mid-west, the north, the east coast, or the west coast neither. Texas is Texas.
The Star of Texas: Home Sweet Lone Star
You learn quick that Texas isn't just different from the rest of the United States of America it's extremely proud of the fact. When we were looking at homes to purchase when we decided to move to Texas my wife and I were blown away by how many houses had a Texas Star somewhere either in the house or on the facade.
☀️ Weathering the Texas Climate: A Fiery Welcome
The weather was the next big shock that I had to deal with after we moved here. I've lived all over the country, and I even lived in Japan for three years as well. I'm used to acclimating to new environments, but I'm still trying to get used to Texas.
Despite all of the differences, no matter how extreme, I am really happy that I moved here. I love Texas, and here are all of the reasons why!
