Hundreds Gather In Killeen For Peaceful Protest Against Police Brutality

Over the weekend, Americans across the country took to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd and other African Americans who have died due to excessive police force and brutality. While most of the focus concerning these mostly peaceful protests has been turned towards those who have used this an opportunity to create chaos, the Killeen community came together to show a better example.

According to News 10, hundreds of people gathered in an empty parking lot in front of Starlite Station on South Fort Hood Street in Killeen Sunday evening along with city and state leaders to protest police brutality. The protest lasted four hours and continued into the night down Fort Hood Street.

Several public officials including Killeen Police Chief Charles Kimble, Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra, and State Representative Brad Buckley spoke to the assembled crowd. The protest was organized by Jonathan Hildner and others, who said the peaceful protest could not have been done without local law enforcement.

Hopefully, we can all come together and find a solution to bring about lasting change on this subject in America. We've been talking for way too long, and in my fact-based opinion, it's time for some action and it will take all of us to make it happen.
