Cedar Creek Lake Tragedy
Late in the evening on June 22, a search team was deployed to Cedar Creek Lake, just southeast of Dallas, TX. Officers were responding to a boating accident where two young girls had become trapped under the capsized vessel.
The boat sank too fast for help to arrive in time, and the two girls, ages three and five, couldn't get free from the wreck. The two drowned as a result of the devastating incident, despite both girls wearing life jackets.
Search Team was Too Late
As search teams began their efforts, they reported it was made exceptionally difficult due to the strong winds and rough water, plus this accident occurred at night, so there was little to no visibility on the water.
This is still being actively investigated, but witnesses say they noticed quite a few people on the boat before it capsized. It's unclear where the parents of the two girls were during the incident and if they remained unharmed.
Separate Tragedy, Same Day
In a separate incident that same day, a 43-year-old man drowned while enjoying the lake with his family. He attempted to retrieve a floatation device after it began drifting away. The rough water pulled him under and he never resurfaced.
In total, Cedar Creek Lake has seen three fatalities this year alone. There were reportedly six deaths associated with this body of water in 2024.
