Killeen Independent School District officials say a threat that prompted increased security at a local middle school Wednesday appears to have been unfounded.

In a statement, officials said they contacted Killeen ISD police after learning of comments about a potential act of violence at Live Oak Ridge Middle School. Police were working Wednesday morning to identify any students involved and determine the validity of the comments.

Officials did not specify what the comments were or where they were made. They said the threats appear to be unfounded, but police presence on campus was increased as a precaution.

"The safety of every student, every day, is our very highest priority," KISD officials said. "Please be absolutely assured that we work closely with police to investigate any potential threat to the safety of our students and we always deal aggressively with any such report."
