Tragic: Killeen Police Identify Victims of Tuesday’s Murder-Suicide

There's been yet another act of violence in Central Texas, as Killeen police are investigating a murder-suicide from Tuesday.

Our partners at KWTX News 10 report that police were called to the 400 block of Sladecek Drive on Tuesday afternoon just after 2 PM. During their investigation, they learned that a man had gotten into an argument with his father, during which police say he fatally stabbed his dad.

Police say the young man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, which proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at 9:46 PM Tuesday.

According to KWTX, this is the 16th murder in Killeen this year.

Killeen PD has released the names of the victims.

James Matthew Moten, the 47-year-old stabbing victim, was pronounced deceased at 2:53 PM Tuesday.

His son was 18-year-old Javeon Rondre Moten.

As we reported earlier, Killeen-Temple was ranked as the 33rd city on 24/7 Wall Street's 50 Metro Areas in the U.S. with the highest murder rates. Between the two cities, the murder rate in Killeen-Temple is 10.3 per 100,000 people, with 48 murders reported in 2020. Violent crimes per 100,000 people was 377.2.

KPD's September Crime Summery shows that there were 4 murders in the month, 4 rapes reported and 7 robbery's along with 52 aggravated assaults. October numbers were not available at the time of this report.

Once again, the number are pretty shocking. In 2020 there were 31 murders in Killeen, a record for the city. There have been 16 murders in the city so far this year.
