Congrats to Luke Howard! He has been promoted from Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams to Head Football Coach at Gatesville High School!

Luke spoke with KCEN television last week about the official move. Howard's family has a history with the Gatesville football program as he follows in his father's footsteps. Luke was a 2007 graduate of Gatesville High and his Dad was a part of the 2000 Hornets coaching staff who put together a state championship group of players.

Howard is thrilled to get to lead his old team onto the field as it's new head coach wearing the Gatesville "G" on his chest once again. Luke spent some time as offensive coordinator for Valley Mills prior to becoming the assistant for the Hornets. He was also an assistant at UMHB from 2015 to 2017.

Howard replaces Kyle Cooper who had been the head coach since 2007. He left to take an assistant position under former Baylor coach Art Briles at Mt. Vernon High School.

Howard will open the season August 31st at Midlothian Heritage as the Hornets start their 2019 season on the road.

Best of luck, Coach! Welcome back to Gatesville High.
