Make Sure You Bring a Mask With You to Any Fort Hood Facility
Due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, Fort Hood has announced new mask mandates for anyone entering a Fort Hood facility.
KXXV Channel 25 News reports that everyone visiting Fort Hood must wear a mask inside all facilities. That includes service members, federal employees, onsite contractor employees, and visitors.
The move comes as COVID-19 cases in Central Texas are once again spiking. The CDC has declared Bell and Coryell Counties as high risk areas and the move also coincides with the Deputy Secretary of Defense’s Memorandum that came out on July 28 stating,
• In areas of substantial or high community transmission, DoD requires all Service
members, Federal employees, onsite contractor employees, and visitors, regardless of
vaccination status, to wear a mask in an indoor setting in installations and other
facilities owned, leased or otherwise controlled by DoD.
• Service members, Federal employees, onsite contractor employees, and visitors who
are not fully vaccinated also need to continue to physically distance consistent with
applicable CDC and DoD Force Health Protection guidance.
• DoD installations, other facilities, and worksites shall, as soon as possible, post signs
and post information on their websites clarifying what masking requirements apply in
each installation, other facility, and worksite.
• Organizations should consult with their servicing Labor Relations Office for guidance
regarding implementation for bargaining unit employees.
Masks will be provided to those without one.
According to a news release from Killeen ISD, teachers and staff who work for Killeen ISD on Fort Hood will also be following all mask guidelines. KISD spokeswoman Taina Maya wrote:
“Killeen ISD operates eight campuses on Fort Hood and will comply with the recent face covering mandate issued by the Deputy Secretary of Defense. This mandate requires all KISD employees to wear a face covering while inside Fort Hood facilities, regardless of vaccination status. KISD campuses located on Post are considered Fort Hood facilities. The General Order is effective immediately. Further information regarding face coverings for students will be released by the district ahead of the school year. All KISD students will learn in-person beginning Monday, August 16, 2021."
The eight Killeen ISD campuses on base are Audie Murphy Middle School, Oveta Culp Hobby Elementary, Montague Village Elementary, Meadows Elementary, Clear Creek Elementary, Clarke Elementary, Early College High School, and Venable Village Elementary.
Classes are scheduled to begin on Aug. 16 and includes eight schools on base.
