Sad: A Legendary Dallas Cowboys Player’s Cause of Death Has Been Released
The Dallas Cowboys family lost a fan favorite on June 1 after Pro Bowl running back Marion 'The Barbarian' Barber was found dead in his apartment in Frisco, Texas.
Autopsy results were released, and his death has been ruled an accident.
Marion Barber Found Dead In Home
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl running back Marion Barber was found dead in his apartment in Frisco, Texas after police forced their way in following a report of a water leak. At the time there was no obvious sign of what caused his death.
Marion Barber was 38 years old and just a few days away from his 39th birthday.
Cause of Death
PEOPLE obtained a report from the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office that listed Barber's cause of death as heatstroke. Barber's death has since been ruled as an accident.
Acceding to The Mayo Clinic,
"Heatstroke is a serious condition caused by your body overheating, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in high temperatures, and can occur if one's body temperature rises to 104 F (40 C) or higher."
Marion "The Barbarian" Barber
Barber was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2005 and played for six years with the team. He went on to play with the Chicago Bears for one year before retiring. Barber had one Pro Bowl appearance after rushing for 975 yards, his career best, in 2008.
The Cowboys released a statement following his death saying,
“We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Marion Barber III,” the statement reads. “Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down. He had a passion for the game and love for his coaches and teammates. Our hearts go out to Marion’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Such a sad ending and it seems so preventable. RIP Marion Barber and thanks for making the game fun to watch.
