Beer companies are jumping into the seltzer game as more and more people make the switch.

According to a report from ABC 13, Spoetzl Brewery, the company behind Shiner beer, is making it's way into the hard seltzer market. This announcement from Spoetzl is coming just days after the Coca Cola company announced that they would also be creating a hard seltzer version of the popular drink, Topo Chico.

Spoetzl isn't tip-toeing around their entrance to the seltzer game like Coca Cola is. Instead Spoetzl is diving right in with Shiner Straight Shooter, a craft brewed seltzer, and plans to debut four different flavors this month. Meanwhile, Coca Cola is only entering with 1 flavor, tangy lemon lime.

Hopefully, by the end of this month we will have the following flavors from Spoeztl brewery:

  • Wild Cherry
  • Lemonade
  • Mango
  • Grapefruit

“When we set out to make our first hard seltzer we knew it had to be genuinely craft brewed," Shiner brewmaster Jimmy Mauric said in a statement. "With that in mind, we use just a few simple ingredients and water sourced from our artesian well. We brewed it so it would live up to its name ‘Straight Shooter’—it is a straightforward, transparent, delicious, and refreshing craft brewed hard seltzer.”

The seltzer business is booming currently, so I'm sure we'll see more companies follow with their own creations. Honestly there's not much to dislike when it comes to the drinks. They're light, tasty, and usually only about 100 calories.
Will you be trying the new Shiner seltzer? Which flavor are you most looking forward to?
