Temple-Killeen’s Winter Comfort Food Favorites
Temple Killeen residents are planning their arctic blast menus!
Comfort Food For Cold Weather
The best thing about cold weather is comfort food. We asked U.S. 105 listeners to share the food they crave when the temperatures drop, and it turns out we all tend to crave the same things! If you are still trying to figure out what to cook for this weekend, see the recipes for our U.S. 105 favorite foods below.
Chicken and Dumplings
My husband’s favorite food of all time was his mama’s chicken and dumplings. I’ll bet when you look up “comfort food” in the dictionary, you will find a picture of it. Check out the recipe here.
Chili
This is Texas, ya’ll...and nothing says cold weather is here better than chili. Beans or no beans...we don’t judge. Check out the recipe here.
Chicken Tortilla Soup
Soup is a perfect winter food, and chicken tortilla soup adds an extra dash of spice to warm you up! Check out the recipe here.
Lasagna Soup
I am not going to lie. I did not know what lasagna soup was before we did this poll. Lasagna is one of my favorite foods, so I was curious to see how it is combined with soup. Now that I have the recipe, I am looking forward to cooking it! Check out the recipe here.
Beef Stew
Nothing says comfort food like beef stew. My pawpaw cooked this for the family when we visited him in north Louisiana. My mama’s version came in a can...labeled Dinty Moore. She added sugar to it and honestly, it tasted great. If you want to go the old school route, you can get the recipe here.
Cabbage Soup
When I started the KETO diet, I found a recipe for something that was basically spaghetti using cabbage instead of pasta. It is amazing. You do not taste the cabbage at all, and it has the consistency of pasta. Now I will have to add cabbage soup to the menu. You can find the recipe here.
Cornbread
With all these soup recipes, you must have cornbread! My husband makes my mama’s cornbread recipe, while I tend to use the Texas cornbread mix because it is faster. You can find the recipe here.
Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Just because it is comfort food does not mean it must be savory. If you are looking for something sweeter, try some apple cinnamon oatmeal! You can find the recipe here.
Frito Pie
This response to our poll brought back major memories of hanging out with friends at high school football games. It is amazing that something so simple is so good. Chili mixed with Fritos in the Fritos bag. Genius! You can find the recipe here.
