Temple, Texas does not usually have to deal with two many Interstate closing events, but from time to time an accident or vehicle fire will close down the roadway to just one lane, and that is what is happening right now to bring northbound traffic on the north end to a standstill.

Texas drivers can often be very heavy footed, and we get so used to zooming along with our high speed limit allowances that not enough thought is put into the speed to driving conditions ratio. This morning throughout the entire morning drive, Central Texas has been dealing with wet roads, and that requires extra space and time between other travelers.

You can see the Temple Police Department cruiser parked perpendicular to the interstate here as they try to manage the on and off ramp traffic, while also making four lanes merge into a single lane to get around the accident sight. Nobody enjoys being stuck in a parking lot on the highway, and we certainly dislike it even more due to an accident when the road conditions are already compromised.

One thing we are blessed to have along most of our major highways is that they are usually complemented with strong access roads that make great detours when the main road is compromised. Just remember to be extra careful when dipping on and off a highway because there are vehicles already on those service roads too.
