A week after biologists with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality inspected Belton Lake's Pier 36 Marina, test results revealed high levels of E. coli in a water sample.

According to our news partner KWTX, one of three samples taken last Tuesday tested positive for the bacteria at 2,400 parts per million - 2,000 ppm above standard findings. Marina staff have been instructed to section off the area where the sample was collected until more tests can be conducted.

Last week's inspection came after the TCEQ received two anonymous complaints of raw sewage being dumped from houseboats due to the on-site sewage pump being inoperable and fuel leaks.

Pier 36 owner Jeff Lagow sent a letter to slip owners last week addressing safety and sanitation concerns expressed in a certified letter from 20 marina residents. A copy of that letter can be downloaded here. Lagow has scheduled a meeting at Temple's Hilton Garden Inn at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss these issues.
