Texan Jordan Spieth is tied for a twentieth place at the Open Championship (The British Open) with an opening round of 70 (-1). J.B. Holms sits at first place at -5.

Spieth hasn’t won a tournament in two years, his last win; the 2017 British Open. Could the Dallas Native hoist the Claret Jug again this year? It’s not a fantastic start, but it’s solid enough for a major. At 25 it’s hard to say he’s washed up, but he is nowhere near what he was just a few years ago. It would be great for the sport and Texas to see him back to his old form.

The win two years ago was a wild one, to say the least, with ups and downs, even a shot from the practice range that saved the round. Then the beautiful 50-foot eagle putt.

There’s a lot of talent ahead of the former number one, including five local players, but no one more daunting than current number one Brooks Koepka (-3). It’s an uphill climb but would make for a heck of a story, hopefully, I’ll get to write it Sunday evening.
