Would you believe this conversation if you didn't see proof?
A Child Protective Services employee in Houston, Texas was finally captured on video after repeatedly advising a teenager in her care to become a prostitute if she wanted to make money to eat.
Formal Complaint Filed Against CPS Worker
KRIV in Houston is reporting that the teenager, who is living at a hotel along with dozens of other foster children in Harris County, decided to record their conversation. In an undated video, the CPS worker responded to the 14-year-old when she asked for food:
A Family in Crisis
The teenager is the daughter of Keisha Bazley. The mother of nine needed help, so she reached out to Child Protective Services. Her 14-year-old daughter was running away and causing trouble at school. Bazley was shocked when she found out what the CPS worker told her daughter, saying, "If I was to do something like this to my child, I would be called a horrible parent. I would lose my kids."
CPS Response to Video
In response to the video, CPS spokesperson Melissa Lanford stated:
DFPS is aware of the video and has taken action. The person in the video was employed as CPS support staff, and as a result of the video, the CPS worker was fired on August 10th. The safety and appropriateness with which children in care must be treated is our paramount concern. Nothing less will be tolerated.'
In an unusual move, Jaime Masters, Commissioner of the Department of Family and Protective Services, came to personally apologize to Bazley and her daughter over the comments. The identity of the fired CPS employee has not been made public.
