A North Texas family is keeping the memory of the daughter they lost alive by sharing her vivid imagination with the world.

ArkLaTexas Homepage reports that 9-year-old Vail Johnson passed away from a heart condition in August of 2016. Days before passing, Vail told her parents she dreamed of being an author, and she left behind stories and illustrations.

Vail's family worked with author Ed Payne and illustrator Britt Sekulic to make the girl's dream come true, resulting in Vail's Tales - an adaptation of the young girl's work. The book contains versions of Vail's stories edited for spelling and punctuation. The book also contains Vail's original drafts and hand-drawn pictures.

According to the Friends of Vail Mission website, proceeds from the book will go to promote education, literacy, and sportsmanship through scholarships. Vail loved reading, writing, riding horses and playing sports, so it's only fitting that her legacy support those causes.

I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child, especially at such a young age, but channeling that pain into something positive is a beautiful way to keep this little girl's memory alive.
