Houston, Texas first responders were asked to respond to an emergency in the Alief area of the city for the type of call nobody ever wants to hear go across an emergency band. Just moments after an 8 year old girl stepped off of her school bus to return home from school, she was hit by a black Ford while walking across a narrow street.

According to this KHOU article, the investigators were able to determine a black Ford was traveling down Concourse Drive about 3:45 yesterday afternoon in Southwest Houston when the vehicle hit an 8 year old girl on foot as she headed towards her apartment complex.

Texas 8 Year Old Now Dead After Exiting Bus

According to officer reports, the driver of the black Ford was a female who immediately pulled into a parking lot after hitting the girl. The preliminary investigation do not believe the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed or being operated in a dangerous manner.

Neither the names of the young girl, most likely a 2nd or 3rd grader, nor the driver of the black Ford have been released to the media at this point, but we do know the school bus that dropped her off was part of the Alief Independent School District fleet. Sadly, the whole event appears to be the results of a tragic accident, and a sobering reminder to always be aware of your surroundings.
