Texas Has the Top 2 Safest Cities in the U.S. And 8 of the Top 20
The website SmartAsset compiled their list of the "2022 Safest Cities in the Country" and the Lone Star State landed eight in the top 20.

Violent Crime in America
According to a report from Council on Criminal Justice, violent crime rates continue to rise in cities all across the nation. Even during the pandemic year of 2020, when less people were working and more were staying at home, violent crime rates rose. Homicides in 2020 were 22% higher than in 2021 and those number continue to rise.
With number like that you'd think it might be hard to find a safe place to call home.
Safest Cities in America
SmartAsset used 5 different metrics including violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality rate, drug poisoning mortality rate and the percentage of the population engaging in excessive drinking and looked at data from the top 200 cities in the U.S. to determine the "Safest Cities in America" list. Texas has the top 2.
Some of the key finding of the report show that Texas and California have the most safest cities with mid-size cities offering the most safety.
Safest Cities in Texas
Texas did very well with eight total cities making the top 20. In fact, Texas landed at #1 and #2 with Frisco and McKinney.
1. Frisco, TX. Located north of Dallas with just over 200,000 people, finished as the safest city in America and had the lowest violent crime rate with 86 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. Frisco also finished sixth-lowest in the country in property crime and drug poisoning mortality rate.
2. McKinney, TX is located just east of Frisco and had very similar numbers.
McAllen, TX finished 6th and Plano, TX finished 9th giving Texas 4 of the top 10 safest cities. Laredo, Round Rock, College Station and Brownsville would all place in the top 20 as well.
Texas would also place 3 of the top 5 "Most Affordable Safe Cities:" as well with Laredo, Frisco and Plano finishing at 3, 4 and 5.
