Target and Waste Management's annual car seat trade-in recycle program has begun and runs through September 13th.

When you turn in your old car seat you will receive a 20% off coupon for select baby items, such as high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers and of course a new stroller. The coupon will be good through the 14th of September.

KHOU11 reports that Target's main competitor Wal-Mart is starting its own trade-in program just three days after the end of Target's.

From September 16th through the 30th, those that trade in their car seat will earn a $30 gift card good for baby items in-store or online.

Waste Management's TerraCycle is the recycling partner for Wal-Mart. Both programs are all about keeping car seats out of landfills.

Child seat standards and requirements are always changing, so while saving an old seat for your next child or a friend or family members may seem wise, trading in may be the best option.
