President Donald Trump reportedly plans to act quickly in nominating a Supreme Court pick in the wake of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing away.

Justice Ginsberg died Friday at 87 due to complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer.

According to the Wall Street Journal's Natalie Andrews, President Trump has said he will announce a nominee this Friday or Saturday, and that he is considering five women.

The announcement comes as many in Washington, including some Senate Republicans, have called on Trump to wait until after the election, citing a precedent they say was set in 2016 following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February of that year.

Andrews reports that Trump has dismissed this concern, saying, "We won the election and elections have consequences."

The Guardian, sharing an Associated Press story, reports that Trump told a North Carolina crowd rally that his pick will be a woman.

“It will be a woman,” Trump said. “I think it should be a woman because I actually like women much more than men.” He said he has an obligation to act without delay, and spoke a few words of praise in honor of Justice Ginsberg.

Speaking to Fox & Friends Monday, the president said he's narrowed down his list of potential nominees to five.

According to Fox News, they include:

Judge Amy Coney Barrett from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit

Judge Barbara Logoa of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit

Judge Allison Jones Rushing of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing for swift action following any nomination by the POTUS, but many are calling for leaders to wait until after the votes are counted in November.

Do you think the President and Senate should wait until after the election to nominate and confirm a new Supreme Court justice? Why or why not?
