Temple is home to so many beautiful buildings with historic significance, and two of them will be honored with markers in the last week of January.

At 4 PM Tuesday, January 28, the Temple Historic Preservation Committee will host a free, open reception honoring the Old Hornsby Murcherson Funeral Home at 202 Martin Luther King Jr Dr.

There'll be a hard hat tour of the building after the reception if you'd like to look around. This is a chance to visit a fantastic local business that's meant a great deal to the Temple community over the years.

On Friday, January 31, there'll be another reception at the 105-year-old house at 720 North 11th Street at 10 AM. That reception will also be free and open to the public, so stop by if you'd like to see inside a little bit of Temple history. (Fun fact: The first mortgage on this house was taken out on June 15th, 1914.)

I'm hoping to be able to get out of the office and make it to this one in particular because I love any opportunity to step back in time in an old house. There's just something about the acoustics that feel more like a home than newer houses in my humble opinion. Everything sounds more real to me in an old house. I can't quite explain it, but hopefully someone out there knows the feeling.

Anyway, if you have any questions about either reception, give the folks at the Temple Historic Preservation Committee a call at (254) 298-5417.
