Houston, Texas area authorities including the Harris County Constables want motorists to be safe at all times, and sometimes keeping yourself safe has nothing to do with turn signals and speed limits. According to this KHOU article, a man was driving his work truck with his wife as a passenger when they attempted to turn off the main road, and were hit on the passenger side by a car that was following them before they began their turn.

Thankfully nobody was injured, but avoiding confrontation is always the prudent thing to do because as things escalate, scenarios can change quickly, and cooler heads often become an afterthought.
