The Waco Police Department is investigating after a vehicle was discovered in the Brazos River on Monday morning. Officers responded to reports of a van in the water near North University Parks Drive and Jefferson Avenue at approximately 10:10 a.m.

Recovery Efforts

The vehicle, a maroon Dodge Caravan, was recovered with the help of the Waco Fire Department dive team, Texas Game Wardens, and Tow King. Crews worked along the riverbank downtown as equipment was brought in to assist with the extraction.

Woman Found Inside

Once the minivan was pulled from the river, responders found a 39-year-old Hispanic woman inside. Police say her next of kin has been notified. However, her name will not be released until officials determine the time is appropriate.

Cause of Death Still Under Investigation

Authorities have not yet determined how long the vehicle had been in the river or how it got there. The woman’s cause of death has also not been released as police continue their investigation.

Impact on the Area

The recovery prompted a large emergency response at the scene, causing traffic to slow in the surrounding area while crews worked.

Waco PD has stated that more details will be made available as the investigation continues. They are asking the public to remain patient while they work to learn what led to this tragic discovery.
