Watch Drew Barrymore Try to Pronounce Texas Cities and Laugh
Drew Barrymore made her way through Texas recently and stopped by a TV station in Dallas to have some fun. While she was there they played a game, and Drew fell into a classic trap for outsiders visiting Texas - the game of pronouncing the names of Texas towns. She did as well as you might expect.
Drew Barrymore
You probably know Drew Barrymore from the many movies she's appeared in: 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler, Fever Pitch with Jimmy Fallon, Charlie's Angels, E.T. and the first Scream movie just to name a few.
What you might not know is that she also has a daily talk show on Fox, The Drew Barrymore Show, and she was in Waco in mid-March filming a segment with Chip and Joanna Gains during the Spring at the Silos event.
Barrymore was also in Dallas recently. She stopped by CBS DFW and did a pretty entertaining segment with meteorologist Anne Elise. In the segment, Elise put Barrymore's ability to pronounce some names of Texas cities to the test. Although it started off well, it didn't finish well at all. Turns out, if you're not from Texas, you may have some trouble pronouncing some of the city names in our great state.
Let's Play a Game
So how did Barrymore do? Let's go through it. Below is the name she was given to pronounce. You guess whether she got it right or not.
Mexia. Looks easy to pronounce right? Did Barrymore get this one right?
Almost. Barrymore got really close, so Elise gave it to her. 1-0
Sachse. A tough one if you ask me, but how did Barrymore do?
She nailed it! Barrymore starts 2-0.
Montague. Yes it seems easy, especially if you've studied any Shakespeare in your life. But remember, here in Texas things ain't always what they seem. How did Barrymore do?
She failed. Still a strong start at 2-1.
Things start to get tough, as the next city name is Palestine.
Barrymore got close on this one too, but falls to 500 at 2-2.
Bowie. Of course the obvious pronunciation would reflect the way we say David Bowie, but it's not that easy as, again, Texas just does it a bit different. How did Barrymore do?
Of course she got it wrong, dropping below 500 on the night. 2-3.
Celina. Barrymore knows at this point that even the obvious isn't what it seems, so she tried to adjust her approach. How did she do?
She failed. Barrymore now sits at 2-4, but there is time to make up some ground.
Bosque. This name gave me trouble in the past as well, so I was selfishly hoping Barrymore would blow this one too.
Annnd she did. Barrymore drops to 2-5 on the night and looking to find a way to at the very least save some pride and dignity.
Italy. Another really easy name, you would think, but this is Texas, so nothing is as easy or obvious as it should be.
She missed it, and who can blame her? Since when is the a silent? Barrymore is now 2-6 with one last chance to get a correct answer.
Waxahachie. How did she do?
Needing a win on the way out, she got exactly that finishing at 3-6 on the night.
She gave it her best shot. Here's the video in full if you'd like to WATCH.
Think you can beat her? Try these Texas names and see how you do.
