Why Texas Shouldn’t Be Sore About Tennessee’s Giant Buc-ee’s

Back in June, you no doubt scrolled past story after story with shocking headlines about another state getting the world's largest Buc-ee's.

I'll admit that I was a little annoyed at first. I mean, this is Buc-ee's home turf. The company was founded in Lake Jackson, Texas in 1982, and the town remains its headquarters. That big, goofy beaver face and those sparkling clean bathrooms are an iconic part of our state's identity.

Plus, you know, "everything's bigger in Texas". That's the law, dang it!*

(*Well, it should be.)

But it's kinda silly to be upset about a company building a huge gas station in another state, right? I mean, they're a business and they've got to outdo themselves every once in a while and make a splash to keep eyes on their brand and deliver for their customers.

Still, I can understand why some people would be a little upset. Texas is obsessed with being the biggest and the best when it comes to everything, which is one reason we attract so many transplants, be they businesses or people looking to move here and start a better life.

Buc-ee's is such a huge part of our cultural identity now that we tend to be a little protective of it, but I think it's great to see them branching out and making an indelible mark on other places.

I feel like I can convince even the most die-hard Buc-ee's purist to see my side of this, so I'm laying out my case here.
