World’s Longest River Cleanup Along San Marcos River This Saturday
Txrivers.org has this weekend's schedule for the clean-up of the San Marcos River!
Tubing season is right around the corner, and it's time to get after keeping the river clean for all to enjoy this spring and summer. Volunteers are needed in the water, along the banks, and at highway crossings along the entire 90-mile length of the river.
While the upper sections of the San Marcos need the most attention, the river does require more skill the further downstream it goes. For that reason, volunteers with little experience will be sent to section 1 of the cleanup, while more experienced paddlers will be sent downstream.
The Texas Rivers website lists the river sections marked for cleaning, and offers directions and times for the weekend cleanup effort.
To find your way to the San Marcos River Retreat, exit Interstate 35 in San
Marcos and get on Highway 80. Drive toward Luling for 1.8 miles, then take a
right on county road 101. Take an immediate left onto county road 102, go half a mile, then take a right on Pecan Park road. Keep going straight (past TG Canoe Livery) and the road will end at the San Marcos River Retreat office.
