Where’s All The Baby Formula? Why Killeen, Texas is Facing a Shortage
If you have a baby, you already know: the nationwide shortage of infant formula is going to get worse before it gets better. Over half of baby formula supplies are currently sold out in six states, including Texas. Between a key factory shutting down and supply chain issues, the shortages will continue for the immediate future.
What Are The Formula Limits?
KWTX is reporting that over the weekend, a local drugstore chain confirmed it is limiting customers to three toddler and infant formulas per transaction. CVS has released a statement saying they are working with vendors.
Target said it has limited baby formula purchases to four units per customer for online sales. Customer posts on social media indicate Walmart is doing the same thing, but there has been no official confirmation from the store itself. According to the Eat This! Not That website, Walmart is also pulling store brand Parent's Choice baby wipes off their shelves.
Where Can I Get Formula?
HEB in Killeen is taking returns and giving out gift cards to get formula, according to multiple social media responses.
Facebook has a lot of people offering to share excess supplies, and posting information about local stores that have any formula in stock. For most babies, it is OK to switch to any available formula, including store brands, unless your baby is on a specific diet.
Responses From Formula Brands
Enfamil had this response on Twitter regarding formula shortages, and what parents can do in the meantime until supplies return to normal:
Healthychildren.org suggests that if you can afford it, buy formula online until store shortages improve. Don't purchase formula from any foreign sites, since imported formula is not FDA-reviewed.
