This proves that we all can make a difference no matter how young we are.

According to our news partners at KWTX, Leighton Kyle, a second grader at Robinson Elementary School, was able to donate around 200 pounds of food to the Humane Society of Central Texas.

Leighton's birthday was January 25th, and instead of asking for presents, she asked for food to help feed the animals at The Humane Society.

“I got food, cat food and dog food for my birthday party, because I have three dogs and one cat, and I really care about them and it was sad to see that the animals at the animal shelter didn’t have that much care,” Leighton said.

Leighton got what she wanted when friends and family dropped off bags of cat and dog food. Her family is, of course, very proud.

Leighton mom, Amy, said, “We are so proud of her selflessness, she’s a tough one so for her to come up with this without any push for us, just to give because she felt like it was the right thing to do, we are so proud."

Leighton's dad is Jeff Kyle, who is a veteran of the Marine Corps and brother of the late U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle. The late Chris Kyle founded American Valor, a Kyle Family Foundation dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders and their families.

Amy says, “We spent all of our free time attempting to give to those less fortunate so, to see that same drive in her is really just awe inspiring.”

Nice job, Leighton!
