When reports of closings and delays started rolling in Sunday evening, Central Texans knew Monday morning traffic was going to be rough. Boy, were we right, and tomorrow could be very similar.

Shortly before 7AM, the Temple Police Department issued an alert about as-needed bridge shutdowns over I-35 and Loop 363. Drivers reported being stuck in traffic on icy roads as crews continued their efforts to lay down salt.

Conditions began improving as the sun rose, but drivers were still being urged to exercise caution, especially over bridges and in areas where patches of ice formed overnight as snow melted and re-froze.

Southbound I-35 from just north of East Main Street in Troy to Airport Road in Temple continued to see slowdowns into late Monday morning, as did Loop 363 from West Adams Avenue to South 61st Street.

Police were working the scenes of several accidents in the icy conditions.

Highs today are only expected to reach the lower 40s, and Tuesday morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Meteorologist Sean Bellafiore with our partners at News 10 reports that fog could cover Central Texas Tuesday morning as well, so morning commuters will need to be extra careful as icy conditions combine with the fog.

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time and don't rush Tuesday morning. Keep in mind the delays and stops we've seen today and take it easy out there.

Temperatures Tuesday afternoon are expected to climb into the low 50s, so we'll have a bit of relief from the extreme cold.

Be safe out there, Central Texas!
