The Temple Police Department has released the results of their investigation of a traffic collision that killed 18-year-old Kimberlyn Longbotham in May.

According to a report issued Wednesday evening, Temple PD's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit has determined that 53-year-old Calvin Vickers, the driver of the vehicle that struck Longbotham's, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.287 on the night of the crash. That's over three times the legal limit.

The collision occurred just before 10 PM on Friday, May 2 in the 8500 block of Airport Road. The initial investigation found that a Chevrolet pickup driven by Vickers was traveling west when it crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a Volkswagon driven by Longbotham and a Toyota SUV occupied by two adults and three children. Longbotham was taken to Scott and White Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Vickers was ejected from his vehicle and passed away at Scott and White on May 8.

The occupants of the SUV were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Longbotham was soon to graduate from high school when the collision occurred.
