
Texas Police Chief Now Facing Horrific Animal Cruelty Charges
Marlin, Texas residents have been facing several community wide issues over the past couple of years like inconsistent water service that has caused the school to be closed multiple times for long durations, and the local animal control services shelter has been under investigation for accusations of animal cruelty.

According to this KCEN article, the city of Marlin, including their own police chief, has been under incredible scrutiny for over a year after a video showing the animal control shelter had severely malnourished animals living in unkempt kennels, and allegedly some of the animals penned in with them were dead.

Marlin Police Chief James Hommel and two other people, including the former Animal Control Officer Nicole Grams, and Robert Thomas are facing 10 counts of animal cruelty charges after a nearly year long investigation by the Texas Rangers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

My family and I love the Marlin community and visit quite often, and you can't help but feel for their recent hardships, but you also have to be immensely proud of the way neighbors have come together to brings awareness. We all know the wheels of justice turn slowly, but these citizens did not let a 13 month long process defeat their will, and they stayed the course until the end.
It may be too late for some of the animals, but at least we know this will not happen to anymore going forward.
