Watch the sky in Temple this weekend, because there'll be one heck of a show going on.

More than 60 aircraft are expected to soar through Temple's airspace beginning Friday, April 9. They'll be taking off from Draughon–Miller Central Texas Regional Airport, where you're invited to park outside and watch the show free of charge.

Aircraft will begin arriving Friday morning, and flights will start at Noon and go through 5 PM. Flights are expected throughout the day Saturday, and there's going to be a mass formation flight beginning at 10 AM Sunday that will cover the entire city!

If you want to watch, you can park in the airport's terminal parking lot. Draughon–Miller airport is located at 7720 Airport Road in Temple.

The planes are with Falcon Flight - a Texas-based formation flying team founded in the early 90's. Falcon Flight members pilot experimental category RV aircraft constructed from kits from Van's Aircraft in Oregon. Most of the planes you'll see this weekend were built by the people flying them.

Falcon Flight pilots fly in close proximity, and sometimes perform coordinated maneuvers. Our partners at News 10 say we could see some rain Friday, but the rest of the weekend's looking good. Hopefully that means the Falcon Flight pilots can go nuts and put on a great show for everyone.

“We are honored to work with this great organization, and happy that they picked our airport to conduct their formation flight clinic,” Airport Director Sean Parker said. “There will be more than 60 folks renting cars, sleeping in hotels and eating in our restaurants for three days. It’s a great sign that life is getting back to normal, while still adhering to social distancing and following CDC guidelines.”

I'm with Mr. Parker. Events like this are great for our local economy, and hey, we all get a free show!

Thanks to Cody Weems with the City of Temple for letting us know about air show. Much appreciated, sir!
