A family of five was displaced by a house fire in Harker Heights early Monday morning.

According to Kathleen Serie with our news partner, KWTX, Harker Heights Fire Department arrived at 700 block of Man O War Drive shortly after 2 AM.

Harker Heights Fire Chief Paul Sims said the family of five were awoken by smoke alarms ringing out in their house. The family was able to get out of the home before the firefighters arrived on the scene.

Sims believes that the fire may have started on the back porch of the home, and flames spread all the way into the attic of the house. The interior of the home received a great deal of smoke and water damage. Two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
