A former Killeen teacher's aide is accused of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.

In a media advisory, Killeen police reported that 37-year-old Louisa Theresa Hernandez has been charged with Improper Relationship between Educator and Student. Acting on information obtained during a Special Victims Unit investigation, the Bell County District Attorney's Office returned a complaint against Hernandez Monday, December 9. Justice of the Peace Bill Cookie issued a warrant for her arrest, and she was taken into custody Tuesday.

The alleged affair would have taken place during the 2018-2019 school year while Hernandez was working at Gateway High School, police say.

According to Alex Gibbs with our partners at News 10, the relationship reportedly began as Hernandez was giving the student rides to and from school. An arrest affidavit states that the relationship escalated when Hernandez began communicating with the student on Instagram, after which she and the student engaged in sexual activity.

Hernandez was suspended when the district learned of the allegations. She was later fired.

This should go without saying, but if you're in a position of authority over children, keep your hands to yourself. In fact, keep your hands to yourself around kids regardless. If you feel you can't manage that, seek professional help before you hurt someone.
